Meet LaToya Lowery

AANLCP: Tell us a little about yourself, your nursing career, and your current position and what typical day might look like for you.

Lowery: I am the owner and founder of LNL Consulting, PLLC. Services provided include nurse life care planner, case management, medical records review, and long-term care planning. I am a Registered Nurse and have over 15 years of experience in nursing and case management. I obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing for the University of North Carolina, at Greensboro and a Master of Business Administration degree from Strayer University. I completed the educational program of Nurse Life Care Planning through FIG Services, Inc. I hold a certification in Case Management, (CCM). I am an active member of the local chapter of Case Management Society of America (CMSA), current serving as Vice President. I am also an active member of AANLCP's Journal Committee.

AANLCP: What prompted you to join AANLCP? How long have you been a member? How has your AANLCP membership benefited you and/or your career?

Lowery: I first learned about AANLCP from one their representatives at the 2014 CMSA Conference in Cleveland, OH. After learning about the organization and a career in NLCP, I knew this organization would be a good fit for me. I have been a member of AANLCP since August 2014. Although I am new to the NLCP family, membership has benefited me through networking, meeting new people, and receiving opportunities to subcontract.

AANLCP: What is the best part of belonging on AANLCP?

Lowery: The best part about belonging to AANLCP is the networking and wealth of information available to us (i.e. the journal).

AANLCP: What is the biggest challenge you've faced as a nurse life care planner?

Lowery: Currently, at the beginning stages of my career as an NLCP, I have not faced any major challenges. However, getting that first referral and having someone give you a chance to prove what you are capable of doing has been my biggest challenge.

AANLCP: What are some of your personal hobbies or volunteer activites?

Lowery: I love to read and travel. Some of my volunteer activities include being a team leader of the First Response Team (FRT), as well as volunteering my time to teach CPR to members of the FRT and Health & Wellness Ministry at church. I participate in several volunteer opportunities within my sorority (i.e. health fairs, back-to-school drives, etc). I also volunteered to assist the Community Advisory Committee within my county. This committee assists the local Long Term Care Ombudsman advocating for residents in long-term care facilities.

AANLCP: Can you share a unique or fun fact about you?

Lowery: A fun fact about me is that I teach Nursing Assistant students in preparation for their State Exam in order to become certified (C.N.A.). I enjoy doing this because I can share what it was like when I was a C.N.A. as well as my experience as an R.N. The majority of the students continue on to nursing school. I also love to participate in community walks (i.e. Women's Only (Breast Cancer), St. Jude, etc.)

AANLCP would like to take this opportunity to thank LaToya Lowery for being apart of our association. It is our members who make us who were are.
